How does HolyLock work?
You choose the apps you want to rest from and the times of day you want to read. During those windows, HolyLock gently blocks the apps you chose. To unlock them, you spend a few minutes reading a Scripture passage we surface for you — matched to how you're feeling that day.
Which apps can I block?
Any iOS app you choose, and whole categories (social media, entertainment, games, etc.). Apple's FamilyControls framework provides the app picker — we don't keep a list of blockable apps, you pick whatever you want.
Does it work offline?
Yes. All four Bible translations — Berean Standard, King James, World English, American Standard — are bundled with the app. Your reading never needs a connection.
Can I change translations?
Yes. In Settings → Translation, pick whichever version you prefer. The change applies everywhere in the app instantly.
Is my reading data private?
Your app-blocking choices stay on your device — we never see which apps you chose to lock. Your reading history is stored locally too. We collect anonymous usage events (which screens you viewed, which features you used) to understand how the app is working. No names, no emails, no tracking across apps. What happens if I need to use a blocked app urgently?
Tap the shield when you open the app, then choose "Emergency unlock." Your apps stay unlocked for 20 minutes before the shield quietly re-arms. No shame — life happens.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open iPhone Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → HolyLock → Cancel Subscription. Apple handles all subscription billing and cancellations directly.
What's in HolyLock Pro?
Pro unlocks every reading plan, unlimited app selections, and custom reading windows. It also directly supports the two women building this app. You can start free and upgrade whenever it feels right.
Does it work on Android?
Not yet. HolyLock uses iOS's FamilyControls framework, which doesn't exist on Android. An Android version would need to be rebuilt from the ground up — we're focused on making iOS excellent first.
Does reading in HolyLock count if I'm also using another Bible app?
They work great together. HolyLock is designed as a gentle daily rhythm, not a replacement. If you already read in YouVersion or Bible Gateway, use whatever feels natural — HolyLock is just about getting those few minutes in before your phone pulls you elsewhere.
I found a bug. What should I do?
Email support@holylock.com with a short description and a screenshot if you have one. We actually read these. Bug reports help us ship better updates.
